Picking the artwork

Posted by Jasper Oorthuys in MagazineAbout us

The results from the 'Artwork as prints' poll are pretty clear. Now I'd like to zoom in a little more. I've selected three images for 'soldiers' and three for 'battle scenes'.
Time to select your favorites.

Another review of Ancient Warfare online, on DaneOfWar, an English language Danish wargames site. They like us. A lot. Yay!

TV-shoot with unintended consequences

Posted by Jasper Oorthuys in RomanReenactmentAbout us

For some reason I forgot to post the blog below in early July. So mentally backdate and have a laugh at the photos...The tv-show (in Dutch and quite a bit outdated in its historical research) has been broadcast by now as well (last item of the show).

Reviews of AW

From time to time I search around the net to see if anyone posts comments on Ancient Warfare. I like to know, ya know! Even critical reviews are useful. It's not as if I think we're perfect (well, I think so sometimes, but there are usually people nearby to disabuse me of that thought).

Artwork as prints?

I promise I have excuses for the lack of blog postings, I do! I'd rather get on with it though. Moving house has given me a comfortable train commute which increases the likelihood of me reading books every day and allows me to muse on new ideas.

Xanten (Germany) does not just have the APX - the Archaeological Parc Xanten - that is host to one of the biggest European bi-annual Roman festivals. It also has a Roman museum with some very nice militaria.

I note that my last blog post has been quite some time ago. I assure you, that's not on purpose, it's just that I've been both busy databasing and away from the office.

Second podcast - version 2

Posted by Jasper Oorthuys in PodcastMagazineAbout us

Jasper Oorthuys

Last night we recorded the second iteration of the second Podcast show. As I related earlier , Skype and Joe's ISP conspired against us. There was actually also the matter of sound quality on Paul's side as well. Put together, that made us decide to try again.

II-2 has arrived!

The deadline's over, the printer has done his job (pretty well again, I think) and we can have a little let-up in stress again. In Dutch we have an expression that says that something was a 'difficult labor' (as in giving birth - maybe someone can enlighten me whether this exists in English too). It rather was.

Articles and abstracts

Posted by Jasper Oorthuys in MagazineArticlesAbout us

Many authors ask me what I'd like them to write about. Personally, I think that's making it a little too easy on yourself. It's clever, because it'll be hard to refuse an article if I've asked for it first, but maybe not the kind of clever I'm looking for. So here is a list of some of the things I look at when I get an abstract, translated into a series of do's and don'ts.
